Silence in the Name of Whiteness

How Do We React to Conversations Around Race?

The documentary, Whitewashed: Unmasking the World of Whiteness, sparks a conversation around what it means to be white in America, how it affects the individual, and the impact on those who are not white.

Schools keep race conversations out of the picture unless there's a genuine purpose behind having the conversation, and most of the time it's not white students involved in the conversation. One main reason behind this comes down to a level of comfortability, as shown below in the infographic. Everyone's level of comfortability is different, especially when it comes to race, but that doesn't mean that going into silence and avoiding the topic makes problems disappear, it just makes them worse.
